Natural Earth Admin-0
Country assignment uses Natural Earth Admin-0 Countries 1:10m, version 5.1.2. Bounding boxes only prefilter candidates; polygon containment makes the assignment.

Site outputs
Country labels, type groups, aggregate counts, paged map assets, and any available GPX/CSV/KML files are derived outputs. Natural Earth does not supply camera records, and OSM does not supply this site's country-page assignments.
OSM-derived database rights remain subject to ODbL. Natural Earth boundary terms apply separately to the boundary input.
Reproducible processing contract
1. Verify inputs
The importer checks the compressed and uncompressed source hashes, row count, boundary version, boundary hashes, and processor-file hashes recorded in the manifest.
2. Validate and deduplicate
Rows without a usable OSM node ID or coordinates are rejected. Exact duplicate IDs and duplicate coordinates are quarantined deterministically, retaining one canonical row.
3. Assign one country
Each canonical coordinate is tested against Natural Earth polygons. A row is published only when it is inside exactly one Admin-0 country.
4. Preserve safe speed values
Only integer km/h or an integer followed by
mphis accepted. Values must be positive and no more than 300 km/h after conversion. The original unit is preserved; comparable aggregates convert mph × 1.609344.5. Generate and reconcile outputs
Country files, global assets, counts, and export manifests are generated from the same accepted rows. The manifest records hashes and partition equations so outputs can be checked without treating internal agreement as proof of real-world completeness.

Coastline and border limits
Admin-0 polygons are generalized representations, not a legal boundary authority. Points exactly on a shared polygon edge, inside more than one country polygon, or outside all polygons—including offshore/coastline cases—are quarantined instead of being forced into the nearest country.
This fail-closed rule reduces cross-border contamination but can omit valid records near coasts, enclaves, disputed areas, or geometrically simplified borders. Country assignment here does not express a position on sovereignty or legal jurisdiction.
Coverage and interpretation limits
- OSM coverage is contributor-driven and uneven. This snapshot does not establish total cameras in any country or worldwide.
- A mobile-camera tag is a mapped record, not a live indication of temporary enforcement.
- Compound, conditional, decimal, zero, non-numeric, and implausible speed tags are not silently coerced into a number.
- The current legacy snapshot's collection date and exact collection query are unknown. A stored refresh query documents future retrieval, not past provenance.
